Cozy Family Evenings
Cozy Family Evenings
Families today are busy and evenings are often spent with fast food and running to and from practices, games, and activities. Amid all of this busyness, it's beneficial to plan some old fashioned, cozy evenings together. Here are some ideas.
-  Have a nourishing meal together. Set the table attractively. Relax and visit while eating. Insist on the dinner table being a "no conflict zone". Also, insist that your children or teens not be talking on the cell phone during the meal. Stress the fact that this is family time. Chat about the day. Enjoy each other's company.
-  Work together cleaning up. Some of the best conversations I had with my mom as a teenager were the times we were washing and drying dishes together before we had a dishwasher.
-  Sit at the kitchen table and do homework together. Or, if they don't need your help, kids could do their homework while you're cleaning up the kitchen. You'll be available for assistance if it's needed.
-  Read together, or listen to an audiobook. Have everyone find a comfortable place to sit in the living room or family room. Turn the lights down low. You'll feel like you are all on an adventure together. Make sure that the books are at a level that everyone in the family can comprehend. I read to my students every day at school, and it is the highlight of the day for all of us.
-  Play board games. This can be a fun and hilarious activity. There are many to choose from. This will give your children a needed break from all the video and computer games, plus they will be doing something with you instead of always being glued to a screen.
-  Here's a really old-time form of entertainment. Work on a jigsaw puzzle together. My mother grew up in the Great Depression, and they spent many evenings on this activity.
-  Watch a family movie. There's nothing like cuddling with your children and watching some of the good wholesome classics.Â
-  Make popcorn. Just the aroma gives a cozy feeling, and adds to the sense of festivity.
-  End the evening with Bible reading and prayer. What better way to finish the day?
